Latest progress for Halloween

HalloweenI made some good progress for the Halloween display this weekend. First, I got my LED scrolling sign up and running again today. The problem I had is, I lost the cable to plug it into the computer and program it! It was still displaying messages from Christmas. I finally gave up on finding the cable. I was wasting too much effort looking for the cable, that could be spent working on other parts of the display, so I went to Radio Shack, and bought the parts needed to build a new cable. I had it finished within a half hour, and now have the sign up and running.

The other project is my Halloween fireplace. This fireplace is supposed to be to a somewhat Gothic theme. I made some great progress on that. Most of the frame is done, complete with a duct tape mantel, and a trash bag interior. The next step is to buy some spray starch, and attach a section of scene setter to give it the proper stone look instead of cardboard. Then it's just a couple tweaks, and it's time to build the fire. One other note, hopefully sometime this weekend, I'll get the software package my site is using updated to the latest version. At that time, I'll install the captcha plugin, which will allow me to open up the comment system so visitors will be able to comment about my posts without having to have an account with this site.

Halloween is in the works!

HalloweenI guess it's time I should start blogging again! Halloween is coming fast, and work has begun at a serious pace. I now have most of my plans in order, and development has begun on this years props. I'm redesigning some of my displays from last year, as well as adding some new decore to the porch. The main display should be up October 1st.

The Easter Display is on and other updates

EasterWell, it's been a while since I've posted here, but I just want to let everyone know the Easter display is up and running. The Easter display is small, and mainly focused on the porch. I have a couple of small inflatables, 370 mini lights, and four small light-up window displays. If you're in the area, drive by and see it, and let me know what you think.

The Display is On!

ChristmasWell, it's all up and running! The 2006 Holiday Landscapes Christmas Display is on. Over 20 thousand lights. The music synchronization will be starting December 1st. There has been a setback in the hardware department, but that will be fixed soon. In the meantime, I have the 12 foot tree running a simple loop, and everything else is static. It was a bit of a rough start Thanksgiving night. It was raining pretty good here, and I couldn't keep the display running. So much for the first night, but it looks great now! I'll get some photos and video up this week for those who can't see the display in person. Hopefully my webcam will get here this week too.
